Got your fresh Moment 6s and want some tips and tricks for it? We've got you covered.
1. Always have a vision.
Having a vision is important for your life, so is your creation. Maybe it's just a simple day at the beach or maybe something deep and more meaningful that you want to present, think about what will happen in the beginning, middle and end, it is important to start shooting with a vision that direct you towards the right direction. In doing so, you will save yourself a lot of time of editing and cutting down the amount of unusable footage and you will get footage of much better quality. Apart from time-saving, shooting with a vision in mind will help you to create a more harmonic video which will be translated into a more powerful story.
2. Have a Subject (Large perspective).
A good subject is the backbone of a good footage, a good subject will grip your audiences from start to finish. Concentrate on the subject and keep it in the center of the frame for the entire shot (track on the core rather than distracted from you subject).
For example: Shot a building - Pick a spot on the building to be your center of focus, as you walk, make sure that spot stays in the center of your screen. For a more dramatic shot, walk in a straight line, while slowly panning up to reveal your building or subject.
3. Shoot in wide format and Get closer.
Moment 6S is great for catching actions within total 170°, keep in mind this affects how large things will appear in your pictures, comparing to human eyes, things would be a bit more than 2.5x further away through a Moment 6S:
So it would be better if you get closer, and when you think you are close enough, try to get even closer.
4. Rule of thirds (Visual images: Design, films, painting and photographs)
Break your photograph into thirds horizontally and vertically which results in nine equal rectangles, the nine rectangles leave you with four intersection points. Placing important elements at the intersection points of those lines, or when photographing subjects like a tree or road, which are comprised of straight lines, the rule of thirds suggests placing them along one of the four lines instead, see as below photograph:
5. Position it, Mount it - Use Necessary Accessories.
Fortunately, there are different sized mounting accessories within Moment 6s package, whether you plump for helmets or chest mount for filming skiing or mountain biking, or decide to procure a tripod for stable stationary shots, mount your camera is always a good idea. It would be better to check out different places to mount the camera to decide which spots works the best for producing decent footages. On the other hand, different mounts can provide different POVs, which helps tell the story that you envisioned.
6. Use Time-lapse Mode for Clear Photos.
Putting your Moment 6s in time-lapse photo mode and set it to take photo every 2 to 5 seconds without continually press the shutter will help you to get clearer photos. With your camera in time-lapse mode, you'll be able to concentrate on holding your camera steady rather than keep pressing the shutter.
7. Use the Burst Mode.
Want to catch epic moments in time? That's what the burst mode made for, even the top end DSLR's are only shooting 5-10 photos per second, Moment 6S can shoot 30. This is good when you are, for example jump off a rock into a water and afterwards you can choose the best photo and delete the rest.
8. Right angle, add depth.
If you really dig into the way of finding the right angle or adding depth, it will take ages, but here are a few tricks that help you shooting very impressive footages:
Down low, looking up (makes your subject looks larger)
High up, looking down (makes your subject appears smaller)
At the ground level (shooting straight, feels like you are a little critter)
Underwater looking up (dreamy look)
